Pool for Mandatory Payout of Monday's Derby City 6 on Closing Day Could Eclipse $1 Million

Bettors have a lucrative $166,544 carryover in the Derby City 6 to chase Monday at Churchill Downs for the nine-race closing day program.

There is a mandatory payout in Monday’s 20-cent Derby City 6, which covers Races 4-9 starting at approximately 2:13 p.m. (all times Eastern) because the special Independence Day afternoon program doubles as closing day of the 42-day Spring Meet.

The jackpot was $166,544 at the conclusion of Sunday’s action.

All monies will be distributed Monday to ticket holders with the most winners in the six-race series. Track officials estimate the force-out of Monday’s total Derby City 6 pool could eclipse $1 million with new money.

The jackpot – paid to a single winning ticket – hasn’t been hit in the last 15 racing programs at Churchill Downs.

Takeout on the Derby City 6 is just 15% – one of the lowest multi-race wager takeout rates in American racing – and only costs 20 cents per combination.

Monday’s closing day sequence features 54 entered horses for an average of nine entries per race:

• Race 4 (2:13 p.m.): Mdn $120k, 2yo f, 6 F (13 entries, 12 to run)
• Race 5 (2:45 p.m.): OC 62500n2x, 3&up, 1 M (10 entries)
• Race 6 (3:18 p.m.): $175,000 Bashford Manor (Listed), 2yo, 6 F (six entries)
• Race 7 (3:50 p.m.): $175,000 Debutante (Listed), 2yo f, 6 F (seven entries)
• Race 8 (4:22 p.m.): $175,000 Hanshin presented by JRA (Listed), 4&up, 1 M (seven entries)
• Race 9 (4:55 p.m.): OC 80000n1x, 3yo, 1 1/8 M (12 entries)
