Out-of-Competition Test Results Released for Derby and Oaks Entrants

May 02, 2014

Cross-section of undercard horses also tested

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 2, 2014) – The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) today announced results of the more than 75 out-of-competition tests that were conducted on horses nominated to stakes races for Friday's Oaks Day racing card as well as Saturday's Kentucky Derby racing card. Testing was performed by LGC Science Group, Ltd. (formerly HFL Sport Science, Inc.), the KHRC's official testing laboratory.
'I am pleased to say that all of the test results were negative.' said KHRC Equine Medical Director Dr. Mary Scollay. 'Sampling was performed over the two weeks preceding this weekend's racing. Other racing jurisdictions assisted the KHRC by sampling horses based out of state. We believe that out-of-competition testing is critical to the integrity of these events and appreciate the high level of cooperation we have received from horsemen and regulators alike in implementing this program.'
All of the Oaks and Derby entrants, as well as a random cross section of horses nominated to run in stakes on either of the two days were tested under the authority of Kentucky's horse racing regulations.
