Ms Anna Destiny Runs Away with Churchill Downs' $59,700 Dream Supreme

Lloyd Schwing Racing’s Ms Anna Destiny made a four-wide move on the turn for home and drew away in the stretch to win Friday’s ninth running of the $59,700 Dream Supreme at Churchill Downs by a widening 4 ¼ lengths over 9-5 favorite Vuitton.

Ms Anna Destiny, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan and trained by Brad Cox, clocked six furlongs over a track rated fast in 1:09.80.

“She loves this track,” said Cox, who collected his first Churchill Downs stakes win. “It’s home to me and it’s home to her and she really gets over this track really well.”

Jan’s Perfect Star was in front of the field of six fillies and mares after the first quarter mile in :22.11 with Livi Makenzie and Ms Anna Destiny pressing the pace. Ms Anna Destiny grabbed the lead after a half-mile in :45.13 and never looked back.

It was the eighth win in 26 career starts for Ms Anna Destiny, a  5-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Anabaa out of the Deputy Minister mare Limes ’n Lemons. This was her second stakes win in the last three months. In early August, the dark bay or brown mare won the $100,000 West Virginia Secretary of State at Mountaineer.

The $38,347 winner’s share of the Dream Supreme purse pushed Ms Anna Destiny’s bankroll to $247,548.

Ms Anna Destiny, the 9-2 fourth choice in the betting, paid $11.40, $4.80 and $3. Vuitton returned $3 and $2.10. Jan’s Perfect Star paid $3.60. Livi Makenzie, Blueeyesintherein and Delightful Magic completed the order of finish. Cho Cho Cat, New Wave and Ms Hoochie Coochie were scratched.

The Dream Supreme is named in honor of the six-time graded stakes-winning mare who won the 2001 Humana Distaff for Churchill Downs’ all-time leading trainer Bill Mott.

Racing at Churchill Downs continues Saturday with a 10-race program that begins at 2:15 p.m. (all times Eastern). The later-than-usual post time will allow Churchill Downs’ races to be interspersed with a simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita. Championship Saturday’s 12-race program in California will start at 1:15 p.m., with the nine Breeders’ Cup events on Races 4-12 starting at 3:05 p.m. and culminating with the Grade I, $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at 8:35 p.m.

The final race at Churchill Downs on Saturday – the 28^th edition of the Grade II, $150,000-added Chilukki for fillies and mares at one mile – is scheduled for 8:15 p.m., 20 minutes prior to the Classic. Churchill Downs’ card also includes the sixth running of the $60,000-added Bet On Sunshine for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs.

SHAUN BRIDGMOHAN, jockey on Ms. Anna Destiny (winner): “She tends to get a little bit overaggressive, and I’ve worked her a few times in the morning. I knew if I got her to settle early that it would make a difference in the end and obviously it did. (Trainer) Brad (Cox) has done a phenomenal job with her and I was just worried about her and getting her to relax. If I did, I knew she would finish and she did.”

BRAD COX, trainer of Ms. Anna Destiny (winner): “Getting her to settle a little bit was important. She was working really sharp going into the Open Mind and we tried to slow her down after that race. We worked her a little bit slower after the Open Mind.  (Jockey) Shaun (Bridgmohan) came out and worked her in the morning and just tried to idle her down a little bit. She’s was still aggressive going into the turn and through the turn today. But the last time :21-and-change was just a little too much and she still went :22 today. She definitely runs like she works. She’s a very, very good work horse and she really showed up today.

“We looked at the idea of running her on the turf at Keeneland, but we saw this race come up so we thought we’d stay here and run on her home track. She loves this track. It’s home to me and it’s home to her and she really gets over this track really well.”

Q: Any thoughts on what she’ll do down the road? “We’ll probably give her a little bit of a breather and then head on to Oaklawn. They have a good series down there for fillies and mares going six furlongs on the dirt, so she should fit like a glove and be competitive down there.”
