Betweenhereandcool Wins Feature; Maker Saddles Four Winners

Betweenhereandcool drew off in the stretch to win the $52,304 Sunday afternoon feature at Churchill Downs by 2 ¼ lengths and in the day’s finale Tator Downs gave the Spring Meet’s leading trainer Mike Maker his fourth win of the day.  

Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr., Betweenhereandcool completed the mile on the fast main track in 1:36.32. It was the 17th win of the meet for Asmussen, who is second in the trainer standings behind Maker, now with 20 victories.

Jerry Durant’s Betweenhereandcool improved his career record to 2-1-0 from five career starts and his earnings increased to $76,600 with Sunday’s check of $31,200.

A 3-year-old bay colt by Unbridled’s Song, Betweenhereandcool returned $13.20, $7 and $4.20. For Greater Glory, under Robby Albarado, finished second and returned $4.60 and $3.20 with favored Positively, under Rosie Napravnik, a head back in third and returning $3 to show.

Racing resumes Thursday with a nine-race program that kicks off at 12:45 p.m. EDT.
