Power Broker Wins Friday Feature

Gary and Mary West’s Power Broker grabbed the lead at the top of stretch and drew off to a 2 1/2-length victory in the $51,384 allowance feature for 3-year-olds and up on Friday afternoon at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Rosie Napravnik, Power Broker completed the 1 1/16 miles on a sloppy track in 1:44.59.

The only 3-year-old in the field of six, Power Broker is a Kentucky-bred son of Pulpit out of the Wild Again mare Shop Again. The victory was the first for Power Broker since his victory in the FrontRunner (Grade I) last September at Santa Anita and improved his record to 7-2-1-1 and boosted his earnings to $288,800 with Friday’s $31,200 check.

Sent off as the odds-on favorite, Power Broker returned $3.80, $2.80 and $2.20. Cary Street, ridden by Miguel Mena, held on for second and returned $10.20 and $3.80 with Suns Out Guns Out finishing 4 ¾ lengths back under Corey Lanerie and paying $2.40 to show.

Racing continues Saturday with an 11-race program that begins at 12:45 p.m. (all times Eastern) and is highlighted by the $65,000 Unbridled Sidney for fillies and mares scheduled to run five furlongs on the Matt Winn Turf Course. The Unbridled Sidney is the afternoon’s 10th race with a 5:30 post time.
