It's 'All Others' Over Pletcher Foursome with One Derby Futures Day to Go

Feb 10, 2013 John Asher

With only one day of betting remaining in the first of a trio of Kentucky Derby Future Wager (“KDFW”) pools in 2013, fans continued to heavily favor “All Others” (#24) over a foursome of Derby hopefuls trained by Todd Pletcher as total wagering in the three-day pool pushed past the $300,000 mark.

The mutuel field, or “All Others”, was the 9-5 morning line favorite when KDFW Pool 1 opened on Friday at noon (all times Eastern) and remained an emphatic 7-5 fan favorite after Saturday’s second day of betting in the pool.  That betting interest includes all 3-year-old Thoroughbreds other than the 23 individual horses on the KDFW Pool 1 betting roster.

Pletcher, who saddled Super Saver to win the 2010 ”Run for the Roses,” trains of seven of the 23 individual horses in Pool 1 and four of those were lined-up behind the favorite at the end of Saturday’s betting.  Unbeaten Verrazano (#20), who has yet to run in a stakes race, remained the pool’s second betting choice at 9-1.  He was followed by Withers (Grade III) winner Revolutionary (#16, 10-1), Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (GI) winner and reigning 2-year-old champion Shanghai Bobby (#17, 11-1) and CashCall Futurity (GI) winner Violence (#21, 12-1).

Pletcher’s other Pool 1 Kentucky Derby hopes are Remsen (GII) and Belmont Futurity (GII) winner Overanalyze (#14, 44-1), Capo Bastone (#1, 71-1) and Delhomme (#3, 84-1).

Aside from the highly-regarded Pletcher quartet, Kentucky Derby fans continued to show solid support in Saturday’s wagering for Sham (GIII) and Super Derby (GIII) winner Goldencents (#9. 10-1), Holy Bull (GIII) winner Itsmyluckyday (#11, 21-1) and Robert B. Lewis (GII) winner Flashback (#7, 22-1).

The Kentucky Derby Future Wager offers fans an opportunity to bet on potential contenders for the America’s greatest race well in advance of the event at odds that could be significantly more attractive than those available on Kentucky Derby Day. The $2 million-guaranteed Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I) will be run for the 139th consecutive year at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 4.

Kentucky Derby Future Wager fans have pushed $333,279 through the betting windows during the first two days of Pool 1, with $275,273 bet to win and $58,006 wagered in the exacta pool.   KDFW Pool 1 reopens at noon on Sunday, Feb. 10 at racetracks, off-track betting centers and online at TwinSpires.com and other advance deposit wagering outlets.  Wagering in the pool will conclude at 6 p.m.

Each Kentucky Derby Future pool offers $2 minimum win betting and exacta wagering, with the latter available in the form of $2 minimum straight exacta bets or $1-minimum exacta boxes and part-wheels. No scratches or betting refunds are permitted in the Derby Future Wager, but betting on an individual horse will be suspended immediately if Churchill Downs determines that an injury, illness or other circumstance revealed during the pool would prevent that horse from competing in the Kentucky Derby.

Information on the Kentucky Derby is available online at the official event Web site at www.KentuckyDerby.com and KDFW real-time odds will be presented on that site throughout each three-day betting pool.
