Amie's Dini Set to Work Sunday; Bodemeister, Mamma Kimbo to Breeze Tuesday

Mike Walker and Lou Sutterfield’s Amie’s Dini, a major contender for the $1 million Kentucky Oaks (Grade I), visited the “muddy” Churchill Downs track on a cold, damp Saturday morning for a 1 7/8-mile gallop during the 15-minute training period reserved for training by Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks contenders. The dark bay daughter of Bandini will breeze over the Louisville track Sunday after the renovation break, according to trainer Ron Moquett.  

Jockey Jon Court will be aboard for the work and will have the mount on Amie’s Dini in the Kentucky Oaks. The special Derby-Oaks training session is scheduled dialed from approximately 8:30-8:45 a.m. (all times Eastern).

Purchased at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $3,000, Amie’s Dini won the Martha Washington at Oaklawn Park prior to finishing second in both the Honeybee (GIII) and Fantasy (GII) over the same track.

“She does everything she’s supposed to do,” Moquett said. “She’s a total pro. She always wants to get up and go to work in the morning. She is one cool filly.”

A winner of $183,896, Amie’s Dini has never been off the board in seven career starts. She was bred in Kentucky by Dell Ridge Farm LLC. 

BODEMEISTER, MAMMA KIMBO WILL WORK FOR DERBY, OAKS TUESDAY – Zayat Stables LLC’s Bodemeister, a leading contender for the $2 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (GI), and Peachtree Stable’s Mamma Kimbo, who will point to the Kentucky Oaks (GI) following her victory in the Fantasy (GII) at Oaklawn Park, will continue their preparations for the first weekend in May by breezing at Churchill Downs on Tuesday.

Bodemeister and Mamma Kimbo will both breeze during the 15-minute period after the renovation break set aside for training by Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks contenders, according to Jim Barnes, assistant to trainer Bob Baffert. Gillian Campbell, R Group Management Ltd. and Greenwood Lodge Farm’s Jemima’s Pearl, third in the Fantasy for Baffert, will also breeze Tuesday in prep for the Kentucky Oaks.

Barnes said Baffert is due to arrive in Louisville on Monday evening. Arnold Zetcher LLC’s Derby contender Liaison, Kaleem Shah’s Oaks contender Eden’s Moon and Zayat Stables LLC’s Paynter, who will be pointed to the $200,000-added The Cliff’s Edge Derby Trial (GIII), will also arrive from California on Monday.

BARN TALK – According to a press release from Calder Race Course, Stipa Racing Stable Inc.’s Reveron has been withdrawn from consideration for the Kentucky Derby after a left fore condylar fissure was detected following a one-mile workout Saturday on a sloppy track at Calder in 1:46. Reveron, who finished second to Take Charge Indy in the Florida Derby (GI) was scheduled to fly to Louisville on Sunday. Trainer Agustin Bezara said it is not a career-ending injury. …

Bourbon Lane Stable and Wayne Lynn’s Bourbon Courage, a leading contender for next Saturday’s The Cliff’s Edge Derby Trial (GIII), will breeze Sunday at Churchill Downs at approximately 6:15 a.m. according to trainer Kellyn Gorder. …

Reigning Horse of the Year Havre de Grace will breeze Sunday at Churchill Downs shortly after the track opens at 5:45 a.m. according to trainer Larry Jones. Havre de Grace is being pointed to the $300,000-added La Troienne Presented by Steelcase and ORI (GII) on Kentucky Oaks Day. …

Mike Lauffer and Bill Cubbedge’s Shackleford, winner of last year’s Preakness (GI) and most recently third behind Jackson Bend and Caleb’s Posse in the Carter Handicap (GI) at Aqueduct, continued his preparations for the $400,000-added Churchill Downs Presented by Navistar (GII) on Kentucky Derby Day with a four furlong bullet work Saturday in :48 for trainer Dale Romans. Working after the renovation break when the track was rated as “muddy,” Shackleford recorded fractions of :12, :24 and :35.80 and galloped out five furlongs in 1:02. …

Reminder to horsemen, the track will be reserved for training by Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks contenders from 8:30-8:45 a.m. through Thursday, May 3.
