Nov 21, 2008 Gary Yunt

(November 21, 2008) – Russell West’s Lady On Holiday collared favored Rustic Flame in the final jump to win Friday’s featured $44,160 Racetrack Chaplaincy of America Purse at Churchill Downs over the Matt Winn Turf Course by a nose.

Trained by Ken McPeek and ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Lady On Holiday covered the 1 1/8 miles on firm turf in 1:51.23 to win for the third time in 10 career starts. The winner’s check of $28,796 increased Lady On Holiday’s earnings to $143,812.

A 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Harlan’s Holiday, Lady On Holiday was eighth in the field of 10 turning for home. Desormeaux switched her to the outside from behind horses at the eighth pole where she got clear sailing to nip Rustic Flame and Robby Albarado, who had burst through a seam in deep stretch to grab a brief lead.

Lady On Holiday returned mutuels of $10, $4.40 and $3.20. Rustic Flame paid $3.80 and $3 and Silver Chest, who was 1 ¼ lengths back in third under Miguel Mena, paid $5.40 to show.
