Amie's Dini Breezes; Believe You Can Set for Monday Work

Mike Walker and Lou Sutterfield’s Amie’s Dini, runner-up in both the Honeybee (Grade III) and Fantasy (GII) at Oaklawn Park, continued her preparations for the $1 million Kentucky Oaks (GI) with a four- furlong breeze after the renovation break on the fast Churchill Downs track Sunday morning in :50.40 for trainer Ron Moquett.

Working under jockey Jon Court, who will be aboard the daughter of Bandini on Oaks Day, Amie’s Dini recorded fractions of :13.40, :25.80 and :37.80 and galloped out five furlongs in 1:04. The work ranked 22^nd of 33 at the distance Sunday.

“I told Jon to go about :51, so that’s about as good as you can get,” Moquett said. “As long as she comes out of this work fine, we’ll be good to go.”

Amie’s Dini, who sold at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale for just $3,000, has a career record of 3-3-1 from seven starts and earnings of $183,896. Moquett said she will have one more breeze before the Kentucky Oaks next Sunday.

BELIEVE YOU CAN – Brereton Jones’ Believe You Can, winner of the Fair Grounds Oaks (GII) in her most recent start, galloped 1 ½ miles under trainer Larry Jones after the morning renovation break.

Believe You Can is scheduled to work Monday morning after the renovation break with jockey Rosie Napravnik coming to town to partner with the Jones homebred in the breeze.

COLONIAL EMPRESS – Bluegrass Hall’s Colonial Empress galloped under exercise rider Rudy Colon after the renovation break.

JEMIMA’S PEARL/MAMMA KIMBO – Two of trainer Bob Baffert’s Kentucky Oaks contenders galloped Sunday morning.

Gillian Campbell, R Group Management and Greenwood Lodge Farm’s Jemima’s Pearl galloped 1 3/8 miles under exercise rider George Alvarez before the morning renovation break. After the break, Alvarez was aboard Peachtree Stable’s Mamma Kimbo for a similar activity.

Baffert’s third Oaks prospect, Kaleem Shah’s Eden’s Moon, is scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs on Monday.

ON FIRE BABY – Anita Cauley’s On Fire Baby, winner of the Pocahontas (GII) and Golden Rod (GII) here last fall, galloped 1 ½ miles under jockey Joe Johnson before the morning renovation break.

It was the filly’s first day back at the track since she worked seven furlongs in 1:26.80 on Friday.

'She was lit up like a Christmas tree coming off the track this morning,” trainer Gary Hartlage said. “She’ll work again next Friday or Saturday depending on the weather.”

SUMMER APPLAUSE — Gillian Campbell, R Group Management and Greenwood Lodge Farm’s Summer Applause, winner of the Rachel Alexandra (GIII) and runner-up in the Fair Grounds Oaks (GII), jogged early Sunday morning under exercise rider Jeff Lopez.

Trained by Bret Calhoun, Summer Applause had worked five furlongs in :59.60 on Friday.

TWO OAKS HOPEFULS SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY ARRIVALS – Peras International’s Yara, upset winner over Grace Hall in the Davona Dale (GII), is scheduled to arrive in Louisville this afternoon and will be stabled at the Trackside Training Center. Jose Garoffalo trains Yara. …

Jonathan Rey, Javier Sarmiento and Dante Zanelli Jr.’s Oaks Lily was due to arrive at Churchill Downs from Keeneland for trainer Timothy Hills. Oaks Lily will be stabled in Barn 39.
