Big Post-Derby Carryover Pools in Pick 6, Super Hi-5 on Thursday, May 12

May 14, 2011 John Asher

Huge carryover pools in Churchill DownsPick 6 and Super Hi-5 wagers from Kentucky Derby Day have become an almost annual tradition, and racing fans will be pursuing those big pools again when racing resumes at the historic track on Thursday, May 12.

Admission for Thursday’s racing card at Churchill Downs that features the big Pick 6 and Super Hi-5 carryovers will be free to patrons who present a winning mutuel ticket from a race run on Kentucky Oaks Day, Friday, May 6, or the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands program on Saturday, May 7.  Post time for the first race on the 10-race Thursday program is 12:45 p.m. (all times Eastern).

The carryover in the Pick 6 wagering pool stands at $514,582 after no one in the record crowd of 164,858 at Churchill Downs, at satellite facilities across North America or those betting on TwinSpires.com or other advance deposit wagering platforms managed to pick the winners of the six consecutive races that ended with the victory by Team Valor International’s Animal Kingdom in the “Run for the Roses.”

The Super Hi-5 offered on the Kentucky Derby proved just as confounding to bettors as none correctly selected the top five finishers in the first jewel of the Triple Crown: Animal Kingdom (20-1), Nehro (8-1), Mucho Macho Man (9-1), Shackleford (23-1) and Master of Hounds (16-1).  As a result, there is a carryover pool of $220,429 for Thursday’s Super Hi-5 offering.

Thursday’s Pick 6, a $2 minimum wager, is set for races 5-10 and will commence at 2:53 p.m. The first of 10 races is scheduled for 12:45 p.m.

The Super Hi-5, a $1 minimum wager which requires racing fans to select the race’s top five finishers in the correct order, is scheduled for Thursday’s 10th race.  The scheduled post time for the Super Hi-5 race is 5:28 p.m.
