Brown Has Strong 1-2 Punch for Saturday's Grade II Mrs. Revere
Nov 12, 2015 Ryan Martin & Darren Rogers
Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence’s Partisan Politics and Long Lake Stable, LLC’s Tammy the Torpedo, both trained by Chad Brown, shipped to Churchill Downs on Tuesday from their Belmont Park base for Saturday’s $200,000 Mrs. Revere (Grade II) for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on turf.
Both fillies are homebred daughters of More Than Ready, and are coming off of victories at Belmont Park. Partisan Politics was the winner of the Pebbles Stakes last time out on Oct. 12, while Tammy the Torpedo was victorious against eight other fillies and mares in an Oct. 18 allowance race.
“Both fillies have been training excellent,” Brown said via telephone. “This looks like it’s the last race on the calendar year for straight 3-year-old fillies on the grass so the timing works out well for them both.”
Tammy the Torpedo’s last start was her first in nearly one year since a seventh-place effort in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (GI) at Santa Anita.
“She wasn’t injured; we just felt that she could have used some time off,” Brown said of the filly’s long layoff. “She seems to be coming into this race real well.”
Jockey Florent Geroux will pilot Tammy the Torpedo in Saturday’s race.
Partisan Politics is a winner of two stakes in her career. Aside from the Pebbles, she broke her maiden in the P.G. Johnson Stakes at Saratoga as a 2-year-old in her second career start. Some of her best running is done when coming from right off of the pace.
“I don’t want to make any decisions as far as where she’ll be during the race,” Brown said. “Javier [Castellano] knows her real well and he’ll put her in the right spot.”
Castellano has been aboard Partisan Politics for all eight of her career starts.
Aside from being daughters of More Than Ready trained by Chad Brown, one other thing that both fillies have in common is that they have both been defeated by Brown’s undefeated Grade I winner Lady Eli on multiple occasions. Brown gave an update on the daughter of Divine Park, who has been sidelined since her Belmont Oaks Invitational (GI) triumph due to contracting laminitis in both of her front feet.
“She’s over at Dell Ridge Farm in Lexington, Ky. currently and she’s doing real well. We’re hoping to have her back around December,” Brown said.

BLOCK CONCERNED WITH SOFT TURF WITH PRADO’S SWEET RIDE – Darrell and Sadie Brommer’s Prado’s Sweet Ride is the only filly in Saturday’s $200,000 Mrs. Revere (GII) with a graded stakes victory over the Matt Winn Turf Course, which she scored in the Regret (GIII) on June 13. Last time out, the daughter of FortPrado was fourth in the Valley View (GIII) at Keeneland, which was taken off the turf.
“It was a deep group last time out at Keeneland, but to me it doesn’t matter what else is in the race,” trainer Chris Block said. “She’s right where she is supposed to be and she’s never thrown a bad race.”
While the competition of Saturday’s race is not much of a concern for Block, the same could not be said regarding the future condition of the Matt Winn Turf Course on Saturday afternoon.
“One concern that I have is the potential softness of the turf,” he said. “I’m not sure that she’s run on a real soft turf, but I think that with a good trip in Saturday’s race, she should make me proud.”
Jockey Miguel Mena will be aboard Prado’s Sweet Ride in the Mrs. Revere.
