C.S. Silk Romps by 9 3/4 Lengths in Closing-Day Feature

William Pacella, George Bonomo and Fred Barbara’s C.S. Silk swept to the lead entering the top of the stretch and drew off to a 9 ¾-length victory in the $67,606 Top Corsage Purse, the closing-day feature on Sunday at Churchill Downs.

 Trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Kent Desormeaux, C.S. Silk came into Sunday’s race off a second-place finish in the Grade I First Lady at Keeneland on Oct. 9 and dispatched her six Churchill Downs opponents with ease after stalking the early pace.

 C.S. Silk, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Medaglio d’Oro covered the 1 1/16 miles on a firm Matt Winn Turf Course in 1:47.21. The victory was worth $41,124 and increased C.S. Silk’s earnings to $511,096 with a record of 6-4-2 in 20 starts.

 C.S. Silk returned $3, $2.20 and $2.10. Miss Catalyst, ridden by Robby Albarado, returned $4 and $2.60 and finished a head in front of Magical Theater who paid $2.10 to show under Julien Leparoux.

Leparoux won his fourth consecutive Fall Meet leading rider title with 28 victories and seventh overall title. Steve Asmussen won his fifth Fall Meet leading trainer title and ninth overall after saddling 16 winners during the 21-day meet. Ken and Sarah Ramsey sent out six winners to claim their record ninth Fall Meet leading owner title and 17th overall at Churchill Downs.
