Churchill Downs Update: Rattle N Roll Continues Preparation for $600,000 Clark
Nov 13, 2024
Eight-time winner Rattle N Roll is back at Churchill Downs gearing up for a shot at the $600,000 Clark Stakes presented by Norton Healthcare (Grade II) on Friday, Nov. 29. Trainer Kenny McPeek confirmed Wednesday that the 5-year-old would target the 1 1/8-mile race after clocking a half-mile breeze in :49 on Tuesday at Churchill Downs.
Rattle N Roll, owned by Lucky Seven Stable, has enjoyed a storied career since his 2-year-old season when he captured the Breeders’ Futurity (GI). As a 3-year-old, he added the St. Louis Derby and Oklahoma Derby (GIII) to his resumé and last year he notched wins in the Ben Ali (GIII), Blame (GIII) and Pimlico Special (GIII). After a disappointing fourth-place finish in Lukas Classic (GII), he took a year off before returning to finish third in this year’s edition of the race.
Originally aimed at the Breeders’ Cup Classic (GI), Rattle N Roll was the first also-eligible but did not draw into the field. The son of Connect returned to Churchill Downs on Saturday to prepare for the Clark.
The Clark, held on Black Friday, Nov. 29, is the marquee race of the Fall Meet and will co-headline the day with the $300,000 Mrs. Revere (GII). Nominations for both races and all closing weekend stakes are due Wednesday.
MONEY SUPPLY TABBED AS 2-1 FAVORITE IN SATURDAY’S $200,000 CLAIMING CROWN JEWEL – Jordan Wycoff’s Money Supply, a $35,000 claim turned Grade III winner, is tabbed as the 2-1 morning line favorite in an oversubscribed field of 12 3-year-olds and up plus two also-eligibles entered in Saturday’s $200,000 Claiming Crown Jewel, the highlight of the 26th Claiming Crown at Churchill Downs.
The Claiming Crown, a celebration of top blue-collar horses from across North America, returns to Churchill Downs for the second time in three years, featuring eight races with a super-charged total of $1.1 million in prize money for some of the most competitive horses in the country. First post is 1 p.m. (all times Eastern) with the Claiming Crown Jewel scheduled as Race 10 at 5:25 p.m.
Money Supply (21-8-2-3—$734,681) was claimed for $35,000 on Aug. 20, 2023 from Klaravich Stables and trainer Chad Brown. Since then, the 5-year-old has notched six wins, including victories in the Mineshaft (GIII) at Fair Grounds and Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
