Oct 31, 2010 John Asher
Two of the brightest names on the Breeders' Cup marquee for the 210 World Championships are now on the scene as European stars Goldikova, Workforce and Midday arrived Saturday evening at Churchill Downs.
Wertheimer & Frere's Goldikova, trained by Freddie Head, will bid for an unprecented third consecutive victory in the Breeders' Cup MIle (Grade I). Prince Khalid Abdulla's Workforce, winner of the Epsom Derby (GI) and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (GI) for trainer Sir Michael Stoute, will run in Saturday's renewal of the Turf (GI). Midday, also owned by Prince Khalid, will defend her title in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (GI) after taking the race for trainer Sir Henry Cecil last year at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
Those horses and others on the flight carrying international stars to Louisville for the Breeders' Cup went immediately into quarantine and, if all goes well, could be released in time for training on Monday, Nov. 1.
Others on the flight include: Behkabad (Turf), Dangerous Midge (Turf), Debussy (Turf), Dux Scholar (Juvenile Turf), Flood Plain (Juvenile Fillies Turf), Mantoba (Juvenile Turf), Paco Boy (Mile), Plumania (Turf or Filly & Mare Turf), Precision Break (Marathon), Quiet Oasis (Juvenile Fillies Turf), Tale Untold (Juvenile Fillies Turf), Theyskens' Theory (Juvenile Fillies or Juvenile Fillies Turf) and Utley (Juvenile Turf).
