homebred mare Lessons From Avery sprung a major upset in Sunday’s $74,488 feature race at Churchill Downs when she flew late to run down Art of Almost by three-quarters of a length at odds of 73-1.

Lessons From Avery paid $149.20 to win. Rafael Bejarano rode the winner for trainer Charlie LoPresti.

The daughter of Lookin at Lucky was last in the field of 12 fillies and mares after a half-mile in the 1 1/8-mile turf event but closed with a late rush to stop the clock in 1:49.39.
