Unlimited Budget, Champ Beholder Top Oaks Future Pool With One Day To Go

Mar 03, 2013 John Asher

After two days of betting in Churchill Downs2013 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (“KOFW”), unbeaten Unlimited Budget (#23), reigning 2-year-old filly champion Beholder (#1) and the popular “All Others” (#24) wagering interest  are atop a tightly-packed group that is battling to determine the betting favorite in the three-day betting pool that is set to close early Sunday evening..

Unlimited Budget, the Todd Pletcher-trained winner of the Rachel Alexandra (GIII) at Fair Grounds, was a narrow 7-1 favorite after Saturday’s betting among the 24 betting interests in the lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool of  2013 drew to a close.  The Mutuel Field, or “All Others”, was next at 8-1, which was also the price on Beholder after the Richard Mandella-trained champion had opened Saturday’s betting as a 10-1 risk.

Fans of the $1 million Kentucky Oaks (GI) wagered a total $45,352 during the first two days of the pool, which included $12,550 in exacta betting.  Wagering will resume on Sunday, March 3 at noon (all times Eastern) and the pool will close its three-day run at 6:30 p.m.  Oaks Future pool betting will conclude 30 minutes after the 6 p.m. close of betting in second of three pools  in the companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager offers racing fans an opportunity to bet on potential contenders for America’s premier race for 3-year-old fillies well in advance of the race at odds that could be significantly more attractive than that that will be available on the day of the event.

The 1 1/8-mile Kentucky Oaks will be run for the 139th consecutive year at Churchill Downs on Friday, May 4, the eve of the Kentucky Derby.  The race will be televised on the NBC Sports Network.

Like its companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager, the Oaks Future pool offers $2 minimum win betting and exacta wagering, which is available in the form of $2 minimum straight exacta bets or $1-minimum exacta boxes and part-wheels. No scratches or betting refunds are permitted in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, but betting on an individual filly will be suspended immediately if Churchill Downs determines that an injury, illness or other circumstance revealed during the pool would prevent that horse from competing in the Kentucky Oaks.

Just behind the top trio at the conclusion of Saturday’s Oaks Future betting was Flashy Gray (#9) at 9-1.  The Flashy Bull filly, one of four KOFW betting interests trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, had been the 5-1 fans’ choice following Friday’s opening day of Oaks pool betting.

Several other 3-year-old fillies were positioned to challenge for the role of KOFW favorite with strong betting support on the pool’s closing day.

Pure Fun (#15), winner of the Hollywood Starlet (GI) for trainer Ken McPeek, sat just behind the top quartet at 10-1.

She was followed at 12-1 by a pair of fillies trained by two-time Kentucky Oaks winner Bob Baffert: Midnight Lucky (#11), a dazzling winner in her lone start at Santa Anita, and Executiveprivilege (#7), a two-time Grade I stakes winner as a 2-year-old who has yet to make her 2013 racing debut.  The Pletcher-trained Dreaming of Julia (#5), winner of the Frizette (GI) and runner-up to KOFW betting interest Live Lively (#10, 18-1) in her 2013 bow in Gulfstream Park’s Davona Dale (GII), was a 14-1 shot.  Emollient (#6), the Mott-trained runner-up in the Demoiselle (GII), was an 18-1 risk heading into Sunday’s final day of betting.

Information on the Kentucky Oaks is available online at the official event Web site at www.KentuckyOaks.com and KOFW real-time odds will be presented on that site throughout the three-day betting pool.
